Kaden Groves (Team BikeExchange) claimed his first victory of the 2021 season and topped the overall standings, winning the prologue of the Tour of Slovakia, a 1.6 km pan-flat course through the streets of central Košice.

On such a short course, the time differences between the riders were tiny; Groves’ winning time of 1: 50.46 was just 32 hundredths of a second faster than runner-up Jannik Steimle (Deceuninck Quickstep), the defending champion.

Longtime virtual leader Marceli Boguslawski (Mazowsze Serce Polski) completed the podium with a time of 1: 51.37.

“It’s a great relief, it’s been a long day today waiting for my turn, I was the last to leave in the team. I just listened to the guys who were gone before, did as they said and I’m very, very happy to come away today with the win, ”Groves said in the press release. team.

“The start and the turn [were the trickiest parts of the course], coming out of the last corner you had to save a little bit from the start just to come home strong and I did and held on. The course suits me very well this week and we have a good team for the sprints and for sure we will defend and go for the stage tomorrow as well.
