Fort Lewis cycling names its national team – The Durango Herald

Team eyes title May 6-8 in Georgia

The Fort Lewis College cycling team wrapped up its Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference road race season at the conference championships in Pueblo, where it won the RMCCC Road Conference title after some excellent results all season.

The Pueblo Classic was also the last race used by the FLC to determine its team for the USA Cycling Collegiate Road Nationals May 6-8 in Augusta, Georgia.

“Our spring road season is over and we’re excited to get to Augusta to compete against the best in the country,” said FLC Cycling Director Dave Hagen. “We’ve had great performances this season in all categories with more than a handful of competitors racing on the road for the very first time. Our college riders have worked hard to prepare physically, mentally and tactically for Nationals and think we can bring titles back to the FLC!”

The FLC cycling staff reviewed the results of the season and the large pool of student-athletes to choose who will represent the FLC at the national championships. Ava Hachmann, Michaela Thompson and Natalie Quinn won races, and Hachmann won the criterium at Pueblo and finished third in the road race.

The men’s team have perfected their teamwork and tactics and are hoping for outstanding performances from Sam Brown, Guy Leshem and Ian Williams. Brown was the Pueblo criterium runner-up.

“Choosing a national team from so many deserving riders is one of the hardest parts of the job, but I think we did a great job picking the riders best suited to the courses and conditions while working well as a team. “, said Hagen. . “Things have come together for the team this spring and if the breaks go well we have a good chance of winning the team title. Looking at the race start list, it’s like a national under-23 championship with many of the best developing riders from across the country competing. We also have a strong support cast that will help keep our strongest riders close to the front for road racing and some crit specialists who will perform well.

The following student-athletes will compete in the team time trial on May 6, the road race on May 7 and the criterium on May 8 in Fort Gordon and downtown Augusta.
