Cycling news – Primoz Roglic reorganizes Adam Yates to win Milan-Turin, with Joao Almeida and Tadej Pogacar behind

Primoz Roglic recalled his quality by overtaking Adam Yates to win Milano-Turin.

Yates (Ineos Grenadiers) set a relentless pace in the final climb of the 190km one-day race, knocking out Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) and the rest of the other favorites except the Vuelta champion a Espana Roglic (Jumbo-Visma).

The pair scrambled to position themselves towards the line before Roglic rounded the outside with 200m remaining and sprinted without fail.

“You never really know what’s left in your legs for the final blow. Sometimes it passes, sometimes not. Today I had it and I managed to follow it. [Yates] and overtake him, ”Roglic said afterwards.

There are always strong guys around and I’m super happy with my performance and the performance of the whole team.

The victory comes just days after Roglic won the Giro dell’Emilia with a solid finish in the last mile.

Joao Almeida (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) came in third, narrowly beating Pogacar on the line.

A relatively flat run came to life on Superga’s penultimate climb with plenty of attacking.

None of the big favorites managed to escape but Mauri Vansevenant (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) escaped near the top of the climb and extended his advantage to 25 seconds on the descent.

However, he was dragged down the steep climb to the finish and his teammate Julian Alaphilippe was also abandoned with 4.2 km to go.

The final stages were contested by a star group of six riders, including Pogacar, Almeida, Roglic and Yates.

It was Yates who set the tone and managed to reduce the group to four and then to him and Roglic. Yates continued to try to let the Slovenian down, but to no avail, and the Ineos rider could only watch Roglic pass him in the final stages.
