Celebrating the New Year with the first new equipment
he's ever had, Jesse sits in his Cadet for the first time. Also pictured
is Rick Sweeting of Raceway Motorsports. Rick (aka: The Fat Man) is
the reason we are successful. With so much to learn about karting, it's
critical to have a friend who knows what he's talking about, and willing
to help you out. Rick claims he's 'just a chassis man', but that's like
having Bruce Willis tell you he dabbles in community theatre, or Billy
Joel talking about how he used to get together with a few of his buddies
to play some music.

This is a 2007 CRG Cadet Chassis, assembled the right way by Rick, with a brand new Comer 80cc engine. It's also the last time it will ever be this clean, since it's suppoed to be raining tomorrow while we are performing the break-in procedure as described by Rick. This kart is our GSKA and NFKC Cadet sprintracer. Unfortunately, it may have to perform double duty as the autocross kart until that one is finished. Could be worse things to drive though :-) |

Ah yes... New Years Day, breaking in a new engine on a new chassis. After hours of following the procedure outlined by Rick at Raceway Motorsports for properly breaking in the engine, Jesse was finally able to turn a few laps at his speed, WFO. Although he was about 35 pounds underweight, we are very happy with the new equipment. With the completely wrong gear (too tall) for a decent lap time, break-in oil in the gas, no chassis or engine tuning at all, air temperatures in the high 30's, a very green track after the previous days rain, and about five hours of tedium prior to the hot laps, Jesse turned several 26.2 second laps. That's about a half second off the lap record. 2008 is going to be a lot of fun.... We also had the opportunity to test the 125cc Rotax engine, restricted to Micro-Max specs, that we will be using at the Florida Winter Tour races this year. Fast, very fast.....in a good way... |
